4 Most Delicious Foods in Indonesia



As Indonesian, we must be proud because every region in Indonesia has myriad typical foods. However, I juat talk about 4 most delicious and favorite ones. They are quiet famous in Indonesia and even in international domain. Really? Check it out!

1. Rendang
Rendang is a typical food of Minangkabau, West Sumatera. It is made from meat and very spicy. The ingredients used are coconut milk mixed with some grounded typical spices such as chili, lemongrass, galangal, turmeric, ginger, garlic, shallot, and many other spices. The making process is rather long because it must be cooked for 4 hours through complicated enough process. That’s why it needs time and patience. In 2011, Rendang was chosen as the first rank dish on the list of World’s 50 Most Delicious Foods held by CNN International. Wow, incredible..!

2. Fried Rice
This Indonesian native typical food has become a daily menu. It has been known to foreign countries. Fried rice is made from plain rice mixed with egg, chicken, shrimp, and fried in oil. Then, sweet soy sauce, shallot, garlic, tamarind, pepper and other spices are put. The other popular fried rice in Indonesia is the one cooked with salty fish. Besides, fried rice has no social class boundaries. In 2011, an internet polling held by CNN International joined by 35.000 participants put fried rice on the second rank on the list of ’50 Most Delicious Foods in the world’ after Rendang. Fantastic!

3. Satay
Satay is the third most favorite food in Indonesia. It is a typical food from Madura. Satay is made from diced chunks of meat threaded on bamboo sticks. Then, they are grilled on charcoal. Sate is served with various seasonings such as sweet soy sauce, peanut, and other ingredients cooked together. There are many kinds of meat can be used for making satay such as chicken, goat, lamb, but the most favorite ones are chicken and goat satay. Sate is usually served with Lontong (rice steamed in banana leaf).

4. Pempek
The last most delicious food is Pempek. It is typical food of Palembang, South Sumatera. The main ingredients are fish and sago. Pempek is usually served with cuka/cuko. It is a brownish black sauce. Cuko is made from palm sugar, ebi shrimp, grounded little chili, garlic, and salt put in boiling water. The most popular Pempek is Kapal Selam (submarine) Pempek. It is made from chicken egg wrapped with Pempek dough and fried in hot oil. The other types of Pempek are Lenjer, Bulat, Kulitikan, Pistel, Telur Kecil, and Keriting. (Athalia)
