Have you ever heard about an Indonesian traditional musical instrument called Rebab? However, it has similar function and usage as other stringed musical instruments, violin for example. Well guys, let’s read the article below.

Rebab is a traditional musical instrument from West Java. It has strings that you need to rub when you play it. It has two or three strings and they are made from metal or copper. The Rebab’s body is made from a hollow jack fruit wood and coated with dried cow skin.

Rebab is relatively small and round with a long neck at the front. This musical instrument is purposely made upright so that we can place it on our lap when we play it, or we can also place it on the floor. The bow on the Rebab is usually more curved than violin. Rebab has a distinctive soft sound and it can be used as one of the opening instruments in art performances, Wayang Golek for example. In addition, it is often used as accompaniment music and to lead Sinden songs together with lute. Rebab can also be used to lead songs. That’s why it plays an important role, especially in art performances with songs.

Rebab is also called a song leader in ensemble musical instrument, particularly in soft percussions. Rebab and Gamelan are harmonious because they both serve as the most important instrument in collaborating basic melody. Guys, are you interested to play this musical instrument?
